March 14, 2008:
Official inauguration of
the Zug Audio Play Bus
“It is importantant to increase the
awareness of the people and visitors of Zug for the agglomeration because this
is a prosperous, fast growing region” says Board of Works Director Heinz
Tännler at the press conference in Baar. And Gilles Morf, Head of the Cantonal
Planning Authority’s Department for Housing and Transport adds “We have removed
our official blinkers and have gone for a creative solution.”
Thus the people behind the project
presented the “Lea and Urs Bus” as a “real innovation” to an audience of a
dozen or so people from media, tourism and the Canton of Zug who had been
invited to its inauguration. This refers to the Audio Play Bus of Zug, which
will travel from Baar to Rotkreuz daily at 1:47pm, Monday to Friday, from 25th March 2008. The ride
through 7 boroughs gives both tourists and the locals an amusing and enjoyable
opportunity to explore the diversity of Zug’s urban areas.
In cooperation with Zug Tourism, the Zugerland
Transport Services (ZVB) and Audiotours GmbH the Canton of Zug’s Board of Works
has turned Line 8 into an audio play bus. The guests will listen to a
conversation between Lea, a woman from Berlin, and her friend Urs from Baar. Urs tells Lea all there is to know about
the landscape, the recreational area close to town, important buildings, the
development of the settlements and local business.
The audio sequences are triggered by an
ingenious GPS system and played over the existing bus speakers when the bus
reaches the right location. The normal stop announcements were integrated
directly into the dialogue between Lea and Urs as not to interrupt the regular
operation of the bus.
